NFC Tap To Learn: FAQ for Staff

Below are some of the main frequently asked questions that community staff may have about the Witlingo NFC Tap to Learn program. If there are any additional questions that are not addressed below by sending us a note to info@witlingo.com

1. What is Witlingo Tap to Learn?

Witlingo Tap to Learn gives residents a simple way to open the community’s public digital Bulletin Board by tapping an NFC key or tag, or by scanning a QR code with their phone. No login, password, or app is required.

2. Why should staff add this to everything else they are already doing?

Because it can reduce work rather than add to it. Residents often call, stop by, or interrupt staff because they cannot find information they need. Tap to Learn gives residents access to current information themselves, 24 hours a day. Residents who carry an NFC key can access that information wherever they are, which can mean fewer repeated questions and fewer interruptions for staff.

3. What information will residents see?

Residents see only information staff choose to publish on the community’s public Bulletin Board, such as announcements, activities, reminders, transportation updates, office notices, resources, and upcoming events. The information can be presented in the resident’s preferred language.

4. Is any personal resident information available through NFC or QR codes?

No. Tap to Learn only provides access to the public community Bulletin Board. Personal resident information is not displayed through the NFC or QR experience.

5. How does this fit with the notifications we already send residents?

Witlingo lets staff proactively send notifications by text, phone, email, and other channels. Tap to Learn complements that outreach by allowing residents to find information whenever they need it instead of relying only on messages being pushed to them.

6. How do residents access the Bulletin Board?

Residents can tap an NFC key or tag with an NFC enabled smartphone or scan the community’s QR code. Either method opens the Bulletin Board directly in the phone’s browser.

7. What if a resident’s phone does not support NFC?

They can simply scan the QR code instead. The QR code opens the same public Bulletin Board, so residents do not need an NFC enabled phone to participate.

8. What do we have to do to get started?

The setup is designed to be simple. Staff set up the community Bulletin Board and decide what information to publish. Witlingo will ship the community NFC keys and ready to use posters that include the Tap to Learn call to action, NFC placement area, and QR code. Staff can then place the posters around the property and make keys available to residents who want one.

9. Will this create a lot of additional work for staff?

It is designed not to. Staff maintain one Bulletin Board. The same content is available through NFC and QR access points, so staff do not need to maintain separate content for each method.

10. Where should we place the posters, NFC tags, and QR codes?

Good locations include entrances, elevators, mail areas, community rooms, laundry rooms, front desks, and traditional bulletin boards. The posters Witlingo provides are designed to make it clear to residents that they can tap or scan to see current community information.

11. Can residents have their own NFC key?

Yes. Residents can ask for an NFC key to carry with them or keep in their housing unit. When providing a key, staff should also ask for the resident’s preferred language so the experience can be better suited to them.

12. Can residents read or listen to information in their preferred language?

Yes. Bulletin Board information can be presented in the resident’s preferred language. If reading is difficult or inconvenient, residents can also listen to the information in that language.

13. What happens if a resident loses their NFC key?

Simply give them another one. The NFC key does not contain personal information and only opens the community’s public Bulletin Board. There is no resident account to transfer, no personal information exposed, and no lost key that needs to be deactivated.
